Seams are unavoidable on most residential lawns \u2014 very few yards are a single continuous roll. What matters is placement and technique. Seams should run parallel to the most common viewing angle (usually from a patio or window) rather than perpendicular to it, and they should be secured with seaming tape and adhesive underneath, not just pinned at the surface.<\/p>\n
Run your hand across a seam line. You shouldn’t feel a ridge, and the grain direction of the turf should match on both sides. Mismatched grain direction is one of the more common shortcuts on rushed jobs \u2014 it’s subtle in dry weather but becomes obvious once the blades catch light differently at midday.<\/p>\n
Edges take more abuse than the middle of the lawn \u2014 foot traffic concentrates there, and in Boise yards, edges often border pool decking, existing landscaping, or planting beds that weren’t part of the turf scope. Ask how much infill was applied and whether it was brushed in evenly rather than left in visible clumps or bare patches. Uneven infill is one of the easier things to spot: run your fingers through several spots across the lawn and the depth should feel consistent.<\/p>\n
A useful real-world test: after the first significant rain, water should disappear through the surface within a few minutes rather than sitting in puddles. If it doesn’t, that points back to base compaction or grading, not the turf itself.
